Michelle Obama: Fashion icon | The Fashion Dungjen

Since Michelle Obama walked onto the set of
The View in a $149, off-the-rack White House Black Market dress, her wardrobe has been the topic of much conversation. And lucky for her, the topic of mostly positive conversations.

It isn't often that there is a fashionable first lady, but I think Michelle Obama's it. Tuesday night, Michelle supported Barack on stage after he delivered his victory speech at Grant Park in Chicago, Ill.

Her black and red dress, straight off the spring 2009 runway, with a few minor alterations, was designed by Narciso Rodriguez, a highly acclaimed New York designer.

I've read several different articles on Michelle's dress, and the reviews are mixed, but I personally love the dress. In fact, when we were in the office Tuesday night, watching Barack speak, while the room was still and quiet, I said, "Look at her dress! It's so good! It's so attractive!"

Of course, expect the fashion writer to say something about a fabulous dress during one of the most historic moments of our lifetime. I think it was justified.

Lets not forget about Malia, walking in with Michelle. Her red dress with black tights is adorable. I love how she and Mom both have the sash and cardigan action going on. They're both on top of their fashion game.

Here's the original version of the Rodriguez dress. (Photo from Style.com) You can tell from the photo of Michelle that the dress is longer and the sleeves have been changed from the shape and sheer material, to thicker, solid black straps.

I'm curious: What do you think of Michelle's dress? Love it or hate it? Better before of after?
