Pantsless, Day 3: Taylor | The Fashion Dungjen

I cannot even begin to explain how much I miss sitting Indian-style. I miss being able to sit like a slob in class, throw my legs up on the news desk at work and just relax. Forget the subarctic-like temperatures, that's nothing. It's this lack of comfortable sitting that really has me in a tizzy.

I've been sleeping in my underwear, which presents a different challenge. Because I'm an RA and there's a certain lack of privacy, especially when you've given up pants, going to the bathroom in the morning has been interesting. Since I didn't go to sleep until around 6:30 a.m. today, I just scurried down the hall in my underwear, but other days, when I actually sleep like a normal person, I've had to wrap a towel around my waist to hold true to no pants. It would be so easy to just throw on some sweats or shorts...

Regardless of the inconveniences, it's still a lot of fun. Here's what I conjured up for today..

Yellow skirt was thrifted from a Goodwill in Dayton. It's very clearly homemade as the construction is awful, but the color and concept is fabulous. I had to buy it. The belt is thrifted from Harvest Valley Thrift in Opelika, Ala., T-shirt from Forever 21, boots are Steve Madden and the tights, who knows, but, because I had to cross my legs all day, the adjuster-thing on the side of my boots kept catching my tights and ripping them to shreds. Awesome. Thanks, boots.

The weather forecast for the rest of the week is more favorable than it has been, which is excellent. I look forward to see what everyone comes up with and to see what you all think of the day three pants-less fun experiment.

Pantsless, Day 3: Rachel | The Fashion Dungjen

Last night Rachel and I pulled an all-nighter. Tonight we're doing more of the same. Since she's busy working on some freaky DAAP project, I'll go ahead and excuse her write-up, but photos, oh no. Here we go, friends:

Pantsless, Day 3: Jillian | The Fashion Dungjen

Day three went pretty well. I didn’t have to do too much today so I opted for a long skirt. Peasant skirts are a guilty pleasure for me. I know that they are not at all chic and that they can look very ridiculous, but I like to wear them all the same. I used to be all into hippie fashion, luckily I out grew that, but the skirts have managed to hang around. Today’s skirt was donated by my aunt who was a hippie in her day. I told her about No Pants week and she kindly gave me two skirts to wear. I have no idea where this skirt came from, but I really like it. The sequins at the bottom add some nice detail. Along with the skirt I am wearing another Henley from American Eagle and a tank top. To add just a little bit more flair(and to prevent the skirt from falling down) I tied a blue ribbon belt around the skirt waist. Shoes weren’t too visible but they’re super cute teal Mary Jane’s from Target. I like Mary Janes. They’re classic and go with almost anything. The skirt was a little cumbersome on the stairs but other than, it didn’t really hinder my normal behavior. I’ve found with a long skirt you don’t really have to sit like a lady, everything is still covered which is nice. The length also added warmth which is a definite plus.

Pantsless, Day 3: Alyssa | The Fashion Dungjen

So far, this whole "no pants" thing has actually gone pretty well. At least during the daytime. I like wearing pajama pants to sleep, so that has been an interesting challenge, but I had remained pants-less all week. Today, I opted for another SO T-shirt, this time in black, underneath a yellow dress. Top it off with black tights that come to mid-calf, and a pair of standard Converse. The shirt and tights both came from Kohl's (which is an awesome place to find deals - their 80 percent off racks are amazing), and the dress was found at a local Lubbock thrift store. I am particularly proud of the dress because I have had a difficult time satisfying my thrift store needs since I moved to Texas. Also, I am amused with the fact that I feel like a bumblebee. Maybe this outfit will double as a Halloween costume in the future.

Pantsless, Day 3: Gina | The Fashion Dungjen

OK, today was an improvement. I feel like I looked cute, the cold wasn't nearly as bitter and tomorrow's conditions look to be even warmer. I'm looking forward to the prospect of wearing a skirt without fearing that my vag will drop from my skirt, frozen, and shatter on the sidewalk (I'm sorry if that was graphic, but loyal readers, you must know my sorrow). My brown linen skirt is from Old Navy, my white T-shirt from Target, shoes from an unknown location and my pashmina scarf was a gift from a dear friend. Tomorrow, breaking the chains of pants continues and I must say, I feel feistier without their presence.

Pantsless, Day 2: Rachel | The Fashion Dungjen

I meant to put this up last night, but things just got away from me. Might have had something to do with the fact I was up until 6:30 a.m., but who's keeping track anyway?

Rachel is a third-year student in the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. She was in fashion for two years before switching to graphic design. A fellow RA, Rachel has become a very good friend of mine. I knew she'd be perfect for no pants week as soon as the thought crossed my mind as she is a very snazzy dresser. She has a flair for all things unique and creative (she better, I mean, that's her field of study, more-or-less). Aside from her string of artistic talents, she's one of the most genuine people I've met. I hope you enjoy her goofy photos and pants-less photos!

Pantsless, Day 2: Alyssa | The Fashion Dungjen

My friends, you didn't meet Alyssa, a pants-less week participant, yet. It's day two, I know, I know, but her camera was fresh out of batteries yesterday, although she assures me she did not wear pants. I believe her. She's good people, ya know?

Anyway, Alyssa is a graduate student at the University of Texas. A University of Cincinnati alumna, she understands the weather we're experiencing here ... She was just smart and left when she had the chance. Anyway, I really like Alyssa. I've known her since my first year at UC - we lived on the same floor in Daniel's Hall. Actually, she even won a couple contests during the seller spotlight contests this last holiday season.

So, dear readers, meet my buddy Alyssa:

Hello from Lubbock, Texas. It was a wonderful 54 degrees this morning when I got dressed. Yes, I said 54. And sunny. I so do not miss the snow.

As soon as I saw Taylor’s ‘tweet’ about the week of no-pants, I volunteered to join her – from afar. I realize that I have an advantage over you Ohioans participating, but I have a whole different beast to battle: wind + dirt. The wind + dirt effect can be very… agitating on bare legs.

Today, I decided to wear a brown, knee-length skirt, a lime green shirt with matching lime green zip-up, and green and brown plaid flats. I decided upon this outfit because 1) I have school so I have to get out of bed today, and 2) my boyfriend woke me up early to go renew our lease on the apartment. I suppose that this is what I look like when I get dressed while half asleep.

I thrifted the brown skirt from… I think it was either the Valley Thrift or the Village Discount Outlet in Dayton. The green shirt and flats both came from Kohl’s, and were on sale. I love the SO plain t-shirts that they sell at Kohl’s. Snug, comfy, soft, and perfect for applying some sort of design to make it your own. The zip-up is from the Goodwill on Dorothy Lane in Dayton.

I opted for bare legs over tights today because I did not want to look THAT much like a tree. By the end of the day, it was warm and my sweater wound up in the backseat of my car. Also, I briefly got some strange looks when I put on tennis shoes and went to play soccer outside with my boyfriend.

Pantsless, Day 2: Taylor | The Fashion Dungjen

You know that look people give you when they think you look like a complete asshole? Yeah, well, if I was any stranger to that stare prior to today - I wasn't - I'm certainly not now. Temperatures hovered around 20 degree, but, with the high winds, felt like seven degrees...? It was blistering. It doesn't help that the University of Cincinnati campus is like a wind tunnel and it's not uncommon for your eyeballs to freeze.

I am aware that, in these photos, you can completely see my panty lines. I had neutral-colored pantyhose on throughout the day which camouflaged them. I'm pretty sure I didn't flash anyone VPL today, but, if I did, keep the change. Show's on the house.

Despite the cold weather, our experiment will carry on. It's supposed to warm up this week, not until Wednesday and Thursday, of course, but better late than never, I suppose. Today I opted for a white dress I picked up at a Dayton thrift store, a flannel shirt from a Cincinnati thrift store, black socks from Europe (Thanks, Oma.) and my Steve Madden boots. I had on some really sassy red Dior lipstick but, with time, it wore off. I would have reapplied but it seemed silly to do so at 11:30 p.m.

What will tomorrow hold? I don't know, but it should be interesting ... And cold.

Pantsless, Day 2: Jillian | The Fashion Dungjen

Day two of No Pants was not quite as difficult as day one. I got to wear one of my favorite dresses. It’s bright, and it’s pink, and it’s from Target, one of my favorite places to shop. I am also wearing a green Henley from American Eagle. The leggings are stolen from my sister, possible from Forever 21 (btw thanks Jerrie). The beautiful suede black boots are from Steve…Madden that is, I like to pretend we’re on a first name basis. The scarf is one of my staples. I wear it whenever my outfit has a lot of color and needs a neutral to balance it out. It also keeps me warm when its fricken freezing, which it was today. So far No Pants is going strong. We’ll see if my enthusiasm lasts the whole week. I’m already trying to figure out tomorrow and not liking this whole cold thing.

Pantsless, Day 2: Gina | The Fashion Dungjen

Upon waking this morning for my 8 a.m. class, I was feelin' good. I put on my skirt and tights this morning, and I was feelin' good. I strode out of the elevator, into the lobby of my dorm, jamming Beyonce, feelin' like a baller and lookin' fresh. All good feelings ceased as soon as I stepped outside. The only thing I could think, walking from my dorm to McMicken, was 'holy CATS, it is COLD out here.' But, today is over, and I am not bitter toward the cold weather. I plan on staying true to my promise of breaking the chains of pants, and my plan will come to fruition. Today, I sported a red T-shirt from Wet Seal, tights from Target, a skirt from an undisclosed location that actually belongs to TD (holler!), saddle shoes from Payless (awesome) and belted with a black scarf. I think it was pretty sassy, but I know I can do better.

Pantsless, Day 1: Taylor | The Fashion Dungjen

Here are a few things I think you should know about today:

Currently situated in Cincinnati, on the first day of the 'No pants, No problems,' experiment, it was a wonderful (high temp) 36 degrees outside, with gusts of wind topping 30-ish mph. Tonight, well, tonight temperatures are supposed to drop to about 20 degrees, though it feels like 5 degrees with windchill. Needless to say, my friends, it is really, really cold.

Unlike Gina and Jillian, I opted for tights. Two pair, actually. And, yeah, I was still freezing. People at work kept making fun of me, blah, blah, blah. Weasels.

Anyway, today I opted for a gray sweater dress I bought a couple years ago at Forever 21 with a long-sleeve black cardigan that I think I actually bought at the same time I bought my dress. I paired it with black tights and these really horrendous, yet fantastic, black boots from Target. My scarf was the burst of color - I thrifted it from an antique mall in Opelika, Ala., this last summer.

I'm just going to go ahead and throw this out there, if I didn't know any better, I would think my right leg was broken in several different places. And, uh, where did my neck go..? I guess that's what happens when you have faux fashion shoots in the study lounge with your friend (aka Jillian). (Oh, and Jillian ...Thanks for telling me I look challenged, jerk.)

Pantsless, Day 1: Jillian | The Fashion Dungjen

Jillian is a good friend of mine. She just got a new cat, Lilah. It's orange, cute. Lilah sleeps ... A lot. Anyway, Jillian is another one of those kind-hearted people. (Usually, anyway.) She's a second-year international affairs student at the University of Cincinnati, so her overall kindness might have to die a little later in life, but, for now, she's a-OK in my book. Not only is she super dooper nice, Jillian is the skinniest freak of nature I have ever met in real life. Seriously. That said, dear readers, open your hearts to my pal, Jillian:

When Taylor asks me to do things, I usually say yes before I really think about them. When she said, "Hey, Jillian, do you want to join me in my week without pants?" I said yeah! before I realized the possible implications. Luckily, my enthusiastic yes didn’t really lead me down a strange path, it just sounds like it did.

Once the rules were explained and I found out I would just be wearing skirts and dresses for a week, I was like, 'oh ok that’s no big deal.' Lately, I’ve become a huge fan of skirts and dresses so I am looking forward to this entire week. That said, getting dressed this morning didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped.

I spent the weekend in Dayton and all I packed were three loads of dirty laundry, assuming that I would find a clean shirt and skirt when I had finished doing the laundry. Skirt? check … Shirt that matches? Oops. Shoes appropriate for a skirt? Oops. So, needless to say, my outfit today was a little off. Thank God I fixed it before we took pictures.

So the skirt is one of my faves. It’s brandless, ordered from Amazon and originally bought for Belly Dancing. It flows, it twirls, it’s fun. The shirt is nothing special, from Target. It was the only thing in the clean laundry that looked remotely OK with the skirt. In the picture I’m wearing flip-flops, but sadly I spent the whole day in Moccasins because a dog ate my tennis shoes and I forgot to bring flats. I looked ridiculous. Let’s hope that tomorrow will be better.

Pantsless, Day One: Gina | The Fashion Dungjen

Gina is one of my best friends. I've known her for several years - we went to nearby high schools and had mutual friends. Gina is a first-year English and political science student at the University of Cincinnati. I like to say I'm the reason she chose UC, but her attitude keeps me in check.

So, blogosphere, I introduce you to my friend Gina. (Actually, Gina made her Fashion Dungjen debut several months ago for a fashion no-no.)

Pants are a huge part of who I am. I enjoy wearing them, purchasing them, trying to squeeze my now fat ass into them, seeing other people wear them and planning outfits that include them as an essential.

I even call my best friend
Pants.

Clearly, I live a life of pants. That being said, I’ve flirted with skirt- and dressitude - for some time now. I decided to wear a skirt once a week during my sophomore year of high school, and I was almost entirely successful. Toward the end of senior year, I started wearing summer dresses almost exclusively. They were an effortless way to look put together without worrying about matching; one piece of fabric covered all the necessary bits and that’s a pretty good deal. I imagine this week will be one of cold and stubbly legs; my foresight for tights and shaving is weak. I will probably go to the gym more than I would otherwise, just to feel the fabric brushing my legs oh so gently.

If all goes well, I could
potentially forsake pants permanently, in an epic twist. Perhaps I'll relish in the bare-legged fervor of skirtedness, feeling the incredibly cold and biting Cincinnati wind against my legs and surrounding my nearly naked vag. Perhaps I’ll go running back to pants, seeking their warmth and comfort, in whom I can sit Indian-style and like a man, lacking any regard for proper sitting etiquette. I guess this comes down to tradition vs. non. The game is on, and may the best apparel win.

On this first day of skirtitude, my thoughts were taken over by the fact that the
skin between my knee-length skirt and my mid-calf boots was literally going to freeze off my body. I am a dumbass for not wearing tights; I hope to have learned my lesson. Aside from that, I felt great. My skirt is from H&M, my sweater is from unknown and my brown boots are from Charlotte Russe. I have no doubt I'll be able to conjure six more outfits, but their appropriateness (and my warmth) will be questionable.
